Why have college bowl games become so worthless now?

However, in recent years the games have become almost meaningless due to the establishment of the College Football Playoff. Attendance has dropped significantly and television viewership has declined as well. Additionally, in many cases, the best teams and players opt out of the games in order to focus on the College Football Playoff. As a result, college bowl games have become much less exciting and relevant to the college football season.
